Dean receives 2003 Berks Woman of Distinction Award

Susan Phillips Speece, dean and CEO of Penn State Berks-Lehigh Valley College, is one of four notable women who have been selected to receive the 2003 Women of Distinction Awards by the Girl Scouts-Great Valley Council. The recipients will be honored at the Berks County Women of Distinction Awards Dinner on Tuesday, March 25, at the Sheraton Reading Hotel. Area corporations, community organizations, and individuals nominate the award winners, and prior award winners serve as the selection committee. Each of the women was chosen for her outstanding professional achievements and for serving as an exemplary role model for today?s young girls and women. The awards will be presented by teenage Girl Scouts who were matched with the recipients for a mentoring experience. Other 2003 Berks Women of Distinction include two Penn State Berks Advisory Board members: M. Melissa Jamula, superintendent of the Reading Area School District, and Judith L. Schwank, Berks County commissioner. Christine Eve J. Kimball, physician and principal owner of Pediatric Partners: All About Children, will be receiving the Distinguished Alumna Award. Women of Distinction is a national Girl Scout program that is conducted on a regional level by Girl Scouts councils across the country. The program is designed to offer mentoring opportunities for teenage Girl Scouts, acknowledge contributions local women have made to their various career fields, and provide financial support for Girl Scouts-Great Valley Council programs that serve more than 16,600 girls.
