Graduate heads to Berkeley biophysics program

When Melinda Hanes of Westfield, Pennsylvania, graduates from Penn State Erie in May, she will head to a doctoral program in biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley. In four short years her life has found a focus and direction that will take her into the top levels of national research. "It's been an interesting path," said Hanes, who majored in both biology and chemistry, "but I've been in the right place. For a small college, Penn State Behrend is very well-equipped to provide a great undergraduate research experience. I've done research with two professors, one in biology and one in physics. The emphasis on undergraduate research is really outstanding at Behrend."
