Alumni pitch in to build scholarship funds

Members of the Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association are keeping busy this summer and it's food that's occupying their time. Every year the Chapter sells Penn State Creamery ice cream in cups and cones prior to five of the free performances held during the summer at the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center. A variety of flavors are sold, much to the delight of audience members and Creamery fans throughout the community. All proceeds from the annual ice cream sales benefit the Chapter's ongoing scholarships that are awarded to five Beaver students every year. To date, the Chapter's summer ice cream sales, and its half-gallon Creamery ice cream sale held in the fall, have raised more than $20,000 for Beaver student scholarships. This summer, in addition to managing the Creamery ice cream sales, Chapter members have taken on the job of operating the Cultural Center's concession stand, which sells a variety of hot and cold snacks and beverages prior to and during each performance. All proceeds from the concession stand sales will benefit the Chapter's endowed scholarship fundraising effort, which is the Chapter's second fundraising project and separate from their annual scholarship awards. Currently the Chapter has raised more than $14,000 for its endowed scholarship and continues to seek funds through private support and special projects such as the concession stand sales.
