Faculty member co-authors and directs new play in Pittsburgh

Carol Schafer, assistant professor of theater, integrative arts, and women's studies, has co-written and is directing a new play entitled The Other Side of the River. Grace Coleman, former part-time instructor at Penn State Beaver and a staff member of Pittsburgh's Crisis Center North, collaborated with Schafer in writing the play and is also its producer. The production will be held at The Warhol Museum on Pittsburgh's North Side on Wednesday, Sept. 3 and Thursday, Sept. 4. Schafer received funding for the project through a Penn State Research Development Grant. The Other Side of the River focuses on the effects of domestic violence on both the victims and their communities. Tickets are $30 and proceeds benefit Crisis Center North. On Wednesday, Sept. 3, a reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. at The Warhol Museum. The play begins at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 4, the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by an audience talk-back session with the cast and members of Crisis Center North. Tickets will be available at the door both nights, but can be purchased in advance by calling Crisis Center North at (412) 364-6728. Parking is available at the museum and in the AICO lot next to the Warhol.
