Pedestrian safety important topic for town and gown

Since 2000, several pedestrian deaths and a yearly average of more than 20 injuries have occurred at the heavily crossed intersections along Beaver and College avenues. The State College Task Force for Pedestrian Safety Education is spearheading an ongoing program to reduce the number of pedestrian/vehicle crashes by educating the public about pedestrian crosswalk laws. Members of the task force, including those who teach and attend Penn State, urge all students to become familiar with these laws, and practice defensive walking and driving downtown.
