ABC to regionally televise Penn State-Purdue football clash Oct. 11

University Park, Pa. -- ABC Sports will televise Penn State's Big Ten Conference road opener at Purdue on Saturday, Oct. 11 to a regional audience. Kickoff has been set for 2:30 p.m. EST/3:30 p.m. EDT at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind.

The telecast is the fifth announced TV appearance of the season for the Nittany Lions. Penn State has appeared on two ABC split national telecasts (Boston College and Nebraska), once on ESPN (Minnesota) and once on ESPN Regional (Temple). The Nittany Lions have appeared on television in 108 of their last 110 games.

Penn State and Purdue will be meeting for the first time since the Nittany Lions captured an emotional 22-20 victory over the Boilermakers in Beaver Stadium during the 2000 season. The Lions will be playing at Purdue for the first time since posting a dramatic 31-25 victory in 1999.

The Nittany Lions lead the series, 6-1-1, winning all six meetings since starting Big Ten play in 1993.

Purdue (3-1) is ranked No. 22 in this week's Associated Press poll and hosts Illinois on Saturday.

Penn State hosts Wisconsin (4-1) on Saturday for Homecoming, with kickoff set for noon. The game will be televised by ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN Plus, depending on the status on ESPN's coverage of the Major League Baseball playoffs. A determination on the network that will carry the game may not be made until as late as Friday. Fans should check local listings or http://www.GoPSUsports.com, the official Web site of Penn State athletics for the television information.

Ticket orders can be placed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the athletic ticket office in the Bryce Jordan Center or by calling 814-865-5555 or 800-863-3336.
