Students experience inaugural Summer in Spain program

This past summer, Penn State DuBois began its first Summer in Spain study-abroad program, in which 12 students from Penn State's Commonwealth College system spent four weeks in Madrid and attended classes at the Instituto Internacional. The study-abroad program is organized by Deborah Gill, assistant professor of Spanish at Penn State DuBois. She created the Summer in Spain program to serve the needs of rural students who do not have an opportunity to interact with a Hispanic population. "Students must be immersed in a culture to build their language skills. This experience will also give them a better understanding of diverse cultures," says Gill.
