EMS deans contribute to new Trustee Scholarship
The three most recent deans of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences have joined in the effort to help keep a Penn State education accessible by creating a Trustee Scholarship in their college. Contributing to the EMS Deans Trustee Scholarship, to be awarded on the basis of financial need, were Eric J. Barron, who has served as dean since July 2002, and his wife, Molly Barron; John A. Dutton, dean from 1985 to 2002, and his wife, Elizabeth Dutton; and Charles L. Hosler, dean from 1965 to 1985.

Award nomination process goes electronic
Faculty and Staff Achievement Awards nominations now may be submitted electronically. Billie S. Willits, associate vice president for Human Resources and chair of the committee appointed to review the nominations for the 2004 awards, said that the enhancement was developed to take advantage of Web technology and in response to suggestions from both past nominators and committee members.

Governmental relations director sought for Hershey
The Office of Governmental Affairs is seeking someone for the position of director of governmental relations for the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

United Way fund-raiser
The staff of the Schreyer Honors College will be collecting bags of spring and summer clothing during October and November to support a global need in Africa, Mexico and South America. The money raised will support local families and friends who are in need of services supported by the United Way.

Lunch, auction benefit United Way
The Student Affairs United Way Committee will hold its annual Luncheon/Auction from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in Heritage Hall of the HUB-Robeson Center, University Park. All proceeds benefit the Centre County United Way. Bidding on silent auction items begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 12:15 p.m. A live auction follows at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 1:15 p.m.
Luncheon tickets cost $7 and may be purchased by calling Cathy Stout at (814) 865-6555. Tickets are limited and must be purchased by 5 p.m. Oct. 23. Some tickets will be available at the door on a first-come, first-serve basis. The auction is free and people are welcome to bring their own lunch. The event will include games as well as a prize for the best of three categories for Halloween costume: funniest, scariest and most original. Race to benefit theatre
A 5K (3.1 mile) charity run/walk to benefit State Theatre Inc. will be held at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the University Park campus. The Dash to Save the State Theatre 5K starts and meets at the parking lot across the street from The Bryce Jordan Center. The event is open to all participants from children to adults. Proceeds will help renovate State College's State Theatre into a new multicultural center that will house plays, musicals, musical talent, foreign and independent films, as well as a children's theatre group.
