Campus begins Haiti 2004 teaching initiative

In conjunction with the bicentennial celebration of Haiti's independence, Penn State McKeesport has adopted Haiti as a common theme to inspire teaching and scholarship. Approximately 20 faculty members are cooperating to address various aspects of Haiti's history, culture, economic, social and political reality in various courses, student research projects, public debates, service learning activities, theatre productions, art exhibits, films and guest lectures. The campus initiative is led by Veronica Montecinos, associate professor of sociology, and division head for social sciences and education for the Commonwealth College. The campus also has joined local efforts in Pittsburgh to mark this event.
