Modified policy aims to free up University network for academic work

University Park -- Earlier this month, the University modified computer and network security policy AD-20 to include a provision that prohibits servers in University residence halls. The goal of this policy modification is to ensure that residence hall networks are more available to students for academic research and coursework.

The policy states that no servers are permitted on campus residence hall networks except under a specific condition in which a faculty member provides a written request for a certain academic purpose and receives approval from the vice provost for information technology.
