Science fair draws crowd of nearly 1,000

The Mon Yough Science Fair has been an integral part of the Mon Valley community for 45 years. This year marked the first time this event was held at Penn State McKeesport's Wunderely Gymnasium. Nearly 400 individual science projects created by middle and high school students were submitted for judging on March 11. The 20 schools that participated where located in 30 communities in and around the Mon Valley. The Regional Business Alliance organized the event, UPMC McKeesport Hospital was the corporate sponsor, and 65 professionals from 22 companies volunteered to judge and select the winners. Ron Ott, president of UPMC McKeesport Hospital, and Bob Cornell, president of the Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce, presented the awards to a packed gymnasium of students, teachers and families.
