Heard on campus: Michael Getler at the Oweida Lecture

"When people complain about the media, newspapers in particular in my case, they sometimes point to a perceived bias or an intentional attempt to portray the news in a certain manner. While editors and reporters make mistakes and the things papers do prompt justifiable concerns sometimes, it's my sense that intentional bias does not exist. ... Journalism has had well-publicized problems in recent months, but the vast majority of those in the field are conscientious professionals."
-- Michael Getler, ombudsman for The Washington Post, who presented the Oweida Lecture in Journalism Ethics for Penn State's College of Communications yesterday (March 30).
