Student club works to make wireless network access on campus a reality

Penn State McKeesport's Information Technology Organization (ITO), one of about 20 student clubs on campus, has received a generous donation of used computer equipment from Frontier International Travel Agency. Two dozen working computers, along with boxes of vintage networking equipment, have arrived and are being set-up in networking labs. ITO is a student-run organization that promotes technological awareness on campus and organizes educational seminars for the faculty, staff, and students at Penn State McKeesport. They recently conducted a "Wireless Day" on campus, assisting anyone with a laptop and wireless card configure their machines for wireless network access. The campus is also upgrading its wireless VPN concentrator and installing 30 new wireless access points to enable secure wireless access from anywhere on campus, both inside and outside campus buildings.
