Food, art and discussions highlight conference

The International Indigenous Knowledges Conference, featuring a wide array of ethnic foods, wellness and nature programs, as well as photographer Wade Davis of National Geographic, opens May 27 at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

The conference, "Indigenous Knowledges: Transforming the Academy," will be held May 27 and 28, with post-conference activities scheduled for May 29.

The event will convene a learning community of international scholars, educators and practitioners to discuss how indigenous knowledges can affect local communities and academic programs. Conference participants will not only experience the food and cultural exchange, but they will be able to seriously address issues surrounding food, wellness, nature and local knowledge generation and transfer.

Organized by the Interinstitutional Consortium for Indigenous Knowledge in the College of Education and funded by a W.K. Kellogg Foundation grant, it will link global and local knowledge systems and explore ways of knowing that enable people to constructively interact with one another and with their natural environment.

Registrations can be made at any time, including the day of the conference. To register, or for more information, visit http://app.outreach.psu.edu/IndigenousKnowledges/ call Pamela Logan at (814) 863-5100,or e-mail Ladi Semali at lms11@psu.edu.
