New Methodology Initiative at Survey Research Center

The Survey Research Center, in an effort to promote innovation in methodological research, has launched an initiative designed to foster externally funded research on statistical, methodological and measurement issues.

The Methodology Initiative will provide seed money and support for researchers seeking federal funding for studies designed to improve methodology.

The initiative will provide funding at two levels. Level I funds are intended to support the development of new, innovative, cutting-edge projects in research and training. Level I funding also will include administrative help for holding meetings, including travel support, and money for paying outside consultants. The range of expected funding for Level I projects is $500 to $4,000. Proposals for Level I funding can be submitted any time during the academic year.

Level II projects should be new or ongoing projects from individual faculty members or any ongoing methodological research activities. Funding in Level II is allocated for a 12-month period and is intended for innovative interdisciplinary research and training projects. The funds also may cover workgroups or conferences, including outside speakers and consultants, as well as travel, speakers, consultants, graduate student time and hourly support of activities. The range of expected funding for Level II projects is between $4,000 and $10,000. Deadlines for Level II funding are Aug. 29, Oct. 31 and April 2.

For information including timelines, proposal structures, criteria for review see the Methodology Initiative Web site at http://www.ssri.psu.edu/methodology/
