Deputy sheriffs graduate from basic training program at Penn State

The Penn State Justice and Safety Institute, an outreach service of Penn State, will hold a graduation ceremony for 20 deputy sheriffs from around the commonwealth at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center on Penn State's University Park campus. The graduation program will include an address by Bradley P. Lunsford, Centre Region district justice. The deputy sheriffs completed a mandatory, 19-week basic training program offered by the institute through a contract from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

Program topics included civil law and procedure, crime code and criminal procedure, emergency vehicle operation, legal issues and ethical and professional development. The training is open to deputy sheriffs from all of Pennsylvania's 67 county sheriff offices.
