Medical Center's JCAHO survey scheduled for first week of November

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) will conduct an accreditation survey of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Nov.1 through 5.

The purpose of the survey is to evaluate the organization's compliance with nationally established Joint Commission standards. The survey results will be used to determine whether and the conditions under which accreditation should be awarded the organization. The Joint Commission conducts its accreditation survey every three years. The medical center's last JCAHO survey occurred in November 2001.

The medical center's goal is to be in a constant state of compliance, meaning all work units and their managers should review their policies and ensure that practices, procedures and work environments meet standards on an ongoing basis.

"We want constant vigilance," said Lynda Martin, quality services manager. "It's in the best interests of our patients and our employees to be 100 percent compliant 100 percent of the time."

Anyone with questions regarding the JCAHO survey may contact Quality Services at (717) 531-6907.
