New Teamwork Center offers students ideal space for group work

Many instructors are including teamwork and collaborative assignments in their courses to satisfy the active learning elements of the General Education requirements. Finding space for teamwork activities can be a daunting task. Students in search of space and resources for collaborative class projects need look no further. A joint effort between the University Learning Centers (ULC) and Information Technology Services recently resulted in the opening of a new Teamwork Center.

This new facility, located in 220 Boucke Building, offers five teamwork stations, each enclosed with noise-reducing partitions and equipped with a large table, five to six chairs, a whiteboard or chalkboard and a lab computer.

Students are invited to bring their groups to the Teamwork Center to get group projects started or continue work on collaborative assignments and presentations. The noise-reducing partitions give groups privacy and minimize distractions typically present when group activities are conducted in traditional classrooms.

The Teamwork Center offers more than just space to work. Teamwork tutors who are trained in group dynamics, teamwork and effective group communication are available to groups needing assistance in these areas. Specific subject area tutors, technology tutors and writing tutors are also available for groups to use, if needed.

Students interested in reserving the Teamwork Center should call ULC at 814-865-1841 or visit 220 Boucke and speak with a receptionist. Walk-ins are welcome on a space-available basis.
