Penn State Lehigh Valley presents the Sounds of Spring at Allentown Symphony Hall

Three of Penn State's premiere a cappella groups will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 1 at Allentown Symphony Hall as part of Penn State Lehigh Valley's cultural and entertainment series Penn State at Symphony Hall. On that Friday evening, the Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha, Savoir Faire and the Pennharmonics will take center stage.

"This is the second event in our series," said Ann Williams, campus executive officer of Penn State Lehigh Valley. "Our premiere event in October featured Mara Liasson, NPR and FOX political correspondent. To fit with our series' mission, we are presenting an entertainment event in the spring. We could not be more pleased to highlight the vocal talents of Penn State University students. I have personally heard two of these groups perform at the Lincoln Center in New York City and I was tremendously impressed by their talent."

These groups have a rich history at Penn State. The Dreamers are the only all-male, a cappella group at the University. They are a part of Phi Mu Alpha, an all-male, music fraternity with chapters all over the United States. They have been a part of Penn State for more than 10 years and began by singing at the Corner Room at every home football game. The group just released its third CD last year, "Mom, Send Money," which was featured on a popular New Jersey morning radio program.

Savoir Faire, founded in 1997, is the University's only all-female, a cappella group. Their repertoire is from the 1980s all the way up to their interpretations of today's music.

The Pennharmonics are a co-ed group that has been performing their particular brand of a cappella music both on and off campus since summer 1993. They have performed as far away as St. Louis, as well as in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. For several years, they also competed in the annual International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for student admission, with valid ID card. To purchase tickets or for more information, contact Debbie Duryea at (610) 285-5061 or at dld28@psu.edu. Seating is first-come, first-served. The doors at Allentown Symphony Hall open at 7 p.m.
