Women's gymnastics tops George Washington

University Park, Pa. -- The 14th-ranked Penn State women's gymnastics team defeated George Washington 195.050 to 190.325 Saturday (Feb. 19) night in front of 2,395 fans at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Nittany Lions posted team scores of 48.650 on the vault, 48.925 on the bars, 48.775 on the beam and 48.700 on the floor while the Colonials recorded team scores of 48.225 on the vault, 46.575 on the bars, 47.125 on the beam and 48.400 on the floor.

Junior Meredith Hoover (Dublin, Ohio) claimed her second all-around title of the season with a 38.975 while freshman Lindsay Borkan (Long Grove, Ill.) finished second with a 38.925. George Washington's Heather Kaufman (38.150) and Erin Aiken (38.100) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the all-around.

Senior Lisa Clark (Philadelphia, Pa.) claimed her third vault title of the season with a 9.900 while Borkan placed second with a career-high 9.875. Hoover placed fourth with a 9.700 while senior Kate Stopper (Reinholds, Pa.) claimed fifth with a 9.675. Junior Jennifer Orlando (Herndon, Va.) and sophomore Amie Olaes (Inverness, Ill.) rounded out the Penn State competitors, scoring a 9.500 and 9.350, respectively, for 11th and 12th place.

On the bars, freshman Kristal Uzelac (Johnstown, Pa.) took home the crown with a 9.900 while Borkan and senior Cécile Allen (State College, Pa.) both posted a 9.800 for second. Clark claimed fourth with a season-high 9.775, Hoover placed fifth with a 9.650 and junior Michelle Ilg (Colonia, N.J.) came in ninth with a 9.250.

Hoover took the top spot in the beam with a 9.825 while Borkan and Stopper tied for second with a 9.775. Sophomore Genavieve Shingle (Langhorne, Pa.) tallied a 9.725 for fourth and sophomore Corissa Pirkl (West Islip, N.Y.) posted a 9.675 for fifth while Uzelac recorded a 9.150 to tie for 10th.

On the floor, Stopper nabbed the top spot with a 9.875 as Hoover placed second with a 9.800. Pirkl claimed fifth with a 9.750, Orlando finished sixth with a 9.675, Clark placed ninth with a 9.600 and Borkan came in 11th with a 9.475.

After the meet, Clark was honored with the Ann Carr Award for the first time in her career.

Penn State remains at home on Saturday, Feb. 26 when it hosts Ohio State in a double-dual with the Penn State men's team at Rec Hall beginning at 7 p.m.
