Two graphic communications students at Pennsylvania College of Technology were awarded $2,000 scholarships recently from the Flexographic Technical Association.
Mark A. Blanchard of Watsontown and John R. Yogodzinski III of Harvey's Lake RR 1 were selected from more than 40 applicants during the Flexographic Technical Association Annual Forum held in Orlando, Fla. Both are pursuing bachelor's degrees in graphic communications management.
The competition is open to any student in a college-level flexography course, and applicants are judged by a group of flexography industry professionals.
Blanchard's application was ranked No. 1 among all entries. This is the second time he has been selected for the scholarship.
According to James P. Lentz, associate professor of graphic communications, Penn College students have received more than $12,000 in scholarships from the Flexographic Technical Association.
Flexography is a printing process with its major application in packaging, tags and pressure-sensitive labels or stickers. Penn College is one of the only schools in the state offering hands-on instruction in flexography.
More than 90 percent of the graduates from Penn College's graphic communications majors find jobs in the printing and publishing industry.
