Penn State Lift for Life set to raise money for Kidney Cancer

University Park, Pa. -- Twenty-four teams are scheduled to compete in the Third Annual Penn State Football Lift For Life Challenge on Friday, July 15. The event will take place from 2-9 p.m. in Holuba Hall adjacent to the Lasch Football Building.

Ninety-six Nittany Lion football players, including tri-captains Michael Robinson, Alan Zemaitis, Paul Posluszny, as well as freshmen Justin King and Derrick Williams, have volunteered to compete.

Founded by Penn State Football teammates in 2003, Lift For Life continues to build awareness and raise donations for the Kidney Cancer Association. The first two Lift For Life events have raised more than $51,000 for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney cancer.

Penn State football fans can share in the Lift For Life excitement all week long with the launch of interactive media now available at www.psuliftforlife.org. Fans can enter the Fantasy Competition by selecting their own team to see how their talent evaluation skills compare to others and discuss their strategy on the discussion board. They can also vote for their favorite team in the Lift For Life poll and shop the new online store that features Lift For Life apparel and memorabilia.

Lift For Life is a strength and conditioning competition during which the squad breaks into teams of four and competes in a series of 11 challenges. The events range from more traditional exercises like bench press to more extreme challenges like the 200-lb. plate carry and giant tire flip.

Friday's event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 per person or $25 per family. Fans will have a chance to meet and get autographs from current and former members of the Penn State Football team as well as the Nittany Lion mascot.
