A Pennsylvania College of Technology student has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship toward his fall studies abroad. Jason A. Biggans of Bellefonte, a business administration-management information systems major, was awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.
The competitive scholarship is named for a longtime former congressman from New York's Hudson River Valley and is administered by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education.
Biggans is one of two Penn College students who will attend an exchange program at Germany's Fachhochschule Wuerzburg (Wuerzburg University of Applied Science) from September through December. The scholarship can be used for airfare, rail passes and other costs associated with his semester-long stay in Wuerzburg.
While in Germany, Biggans said, he hopes to visit Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin and Kiel, the home of a teacher's assistant from whom he took a German course at Lycoming College.
The twice yearly trip is coordinated by Steven J. Moff, associate professor of business administration-marketing in the college's School of Business and Computer Technologies, who has lectured at Wuerzburg and who last summer brought a German faculty counterpart into his main-campus classroom.
The other member of this fall's tour group will be Andrew J. Bubb of Huntingdon Valley, who is enrolled in the computer information technology-data communications and networking major.
