Lehigh Valley

Student receives University-wide scholarship

Mercedes M. Pereira, a sophomore at Penn State Lehigh Valley, was named as one of two recipients of the Dan Kopen Alumni Volunteer Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to a Lion Ambassador, based on the individual's contributions within the Lion Ambassador organization and academic standing. Lion Ambassadors are groups of students, at each campus location within the Penn State University system, who work to promote Penn State pride across the campus, the commonwealth and the country. Pereira is an active member of the Lion Ambassadors at Penn State Lehigh Valley and, in this capacity, has assisted with open house events, alumni functions and other special events on campus. In addition, she is the co-founder and president of the International Club; is a member of the Student Government Association; is a member of the Honors Program; and is actively involved in a number of community outreach projects on behalf of the campus. This scholarship is endowed from the Penn State Alumni Association Office, the Office of University Development and the Office of University Relations.
