Berks student sheds pounds on 'The Biggest Loser'

Penn State Berks student Sarah Eberwein and her fiance, Steven Rothermel, competed against another engaged couple on NBC's reality TV show, "The Biggest Loser." The second of the two episodes will air at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Eberwein, a senior elementary education major, auditioned for "The Biggest Loser" by submitting a video, on which she stated that she was engaged. When the producers of the show decided to run episodes featuring engaged couples, the casting department contacted Eberwein.

In April, Eberwein and Rothermel, along with another couple, visited The Ranch to learn how to follow a weight-loss program of diet and exercise, which was tailored to fit their specific needs. Filming wrapped in September.

Although she can't reveal the results until the final episode airs, Eberwein said that she and her fiance both lost a significant amount of weight. The couple that loses the highest percentage of weight will win a $50,000 dream wedding.

"It's made a dramatic difference in our lives," said Eberwein. "The weight loss has made me more conscious of everything. It's become a new lifestyle for us. There are still temptations and it takes a conscious effort every day, but now we look at exercise as fun and enjoyable rather than a burden on our time."
