Berks student, fiancee win 'The Biggest Loser'

Penn State Berks student Sarah Eberwein and her fiancee, Steven Rothermel, were the winners of the weight-loss competition on NBC's reality TV show, "The Biggest Loser." The second of the two-episode special aired on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Eberwein and Rothermel had the higher percentage of weight loss, shedding a total of 170 pounds as a couple for a 30-percent loss. They received a $50,000 dream wedding as a result of winning the competition. The couple plans to marry in December 2007.

Eberwein, a senior elementary education major, auditioned for "The Biggest Loser" by submitting a video, on which she stated that she was engaged. When the producers of the show decided to air episodes featuring engaged couples, the casting department contacted Eberwein. In April, Eberwein and Rothermel, along with another couple, visited The Ranch to learn how to follow a weight-loss program of diet and exercise, which was tailored to fit their specific needs. Filming wrapped in September.
