Schneider guides a jazz orchestra of 'beauty, power and depth'

The Maria Schneider Orchestra will present a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in Penn State's Eisenhower Auditorium, University Park. Tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation are $33 for adults, $17 for University Park students and $26 for people 18 and younger. For tickets and information, visit http://www.cpa.psu.edu online, or call (814) 863-0255 or (800) ARTS-TIX. Tickets also are available at Eisenhower Auditorium, Penn State Tickets Downtown, HUB-Robeson Center Information Desk, and the Bryce Jordan Center.

The orchestra's Penn State concert features a variety of Schneider's impressionistic compositions, including "The 'Pretty' Road," a work co-commissioned by the Center for the Performing Arts. Schneider, a composer, arranger and bandleader, made history when "Concert in the Garden" earned the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. It was the first recording to win a Grammy without having been in stores.

Artistic Viewpoints provides insight from a visiting artist and is offered free to interested ticket-holders in the Eisenhower Auditorium Conference Room one hour before the performance.
