Free multimedia modules available for faculty

Penn State faculty can view and download multimedia teaching modules at http://tlt.its.psu.edu/mto/ that have been developed through the Multimedia Teaching Object grant program. Through the program, Teaching and Learning with Technology, a unit of Information Technology Services, accepts faculty proposals to develop modules that reinforce course concepts using multimedia such as animation, 3-D visualization, video, audio, online games or interactive demonstrations. Completed modules are added to the program Web site so that any Penn State instructor can download them for educational or personal use. Commercial use is not permitted.

Modules from the latest 2005 development cycles now are available, representing fields such as energy and geo-environmental engineering, microbiology, music and psychology. To browse existing modules, faculty can go to the Web site and use the links at the top of the page to list module titles by discipline or list all modules alphabetically. Clicking a title will display information about the module and the course for which it was created, followed by a link to download the module in the form of a zipped file. Double-clicking this file will extract or unzip the individual files. The ReadMe.html file provides instructions for uploading the module to a Web site or an ANGEL course. Faculty who want more information about the Multimedia Teaching Objects program should contact the program at tltmto@psu.edu via e-mail.
