Ferrell named spring 2006 Entrepreneur in Residence

Chuck Ferrell, founder of Newsroom Solutions, has been named the spring 2006 Bishoff Entrepreneur in Residence. Newsroom Solutions provides complete systems to television stations for insertion of breaking updates and news crawls within the "lower fifth display." While the news business knows Ferrell through Newsroom Solutions, he is familiar locally for a different reason. As an anchor for Altoona's WTAJ-TV Channel 10, Ferrell brought news to central Pennsylvania until late 2005. His work with WTAJ capped off a 27-year career in the television news business. Ferrell will bring his experience to the classroom on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 6 and 7, when he will observe, interact with and advise the future entrepreneurs through classroom activities and informal chat sessions. He also will give a presentation, "Launching a Technology Company Through Boot-Strapping," at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in 129 Waring Commons. The presentation and question-and-answer session that will follow is open to the public. The entrepreneur-in-residence program is named for and underwritten by Pittsburgh native E.V. Bishoff, the late chairman of a Columbus, Ohio-based real estate firm that also bears his name. Bishoff attended Penn State's chemical engineering program from 1941 to 1943.
