Penn State Berks celebrates spring equinox with festival

Penn State Berks will celebrate the beginning of spring with a Spring Equinox Festival from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at the campus Labyrinth Walk, located just before the intersection of Broadcasting and Tulpehocken Roads in Spring Township.

This event is free to the public. The opening ceremony will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m. and will include a short astronomy lesson by Ruth Daly, assistant professor of physics; a discussion of spring traditions by Cesar Martinez-Garza, assistant professor of mathematics, and James Robison, a junior at Penn State Berks; and a poetry reading by Jayne Brown, senior lecturer in English.

Some of the other highlights of the evening will include designing spring greeting cards, a drumming circle from Earth Rhythms, a vocalist and dance performance, seed and bulb planting, and a spring theme costume contest. In addition, the Labyrinth Walk will be illuminated with votive candles and luminaries, creating a magical setting for continuous labyrinth walking throughout the evening.
