Lauchle named to academy's noise-control steering committee

Gerald Lauchle, professor of acoustics, has been named a member of a National Academy of Engineering steering committee dedicated to noise control. The committee, Technology for a Quieter America, is investigating how noise affects society; how noise regulations contribute to worker safety and economic competitiveness; what policies and research can help produce quieter products; and how noise control experts can better interact with government and community groups. Lauchle will serve a two-year term on the committee. He has been a member of the Penn State faculty since 1990. Lauchle holds a bachelor of science and a master of science in aerospace engineering and a doctoral degree in acoustics from Penn State.
