School of Music concerts range from gospel to classics

April continues to be a jam-packed performance month with these School of Music presentations scheduled:

Essence of Joy: Essence of Joy, under the direction of Anthony Leach, will present its annual spring concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I, University Park. The theme for the event is "Soul and Spirit." Spirituals, traditional and contemporary gospel selections will be presented. Tickets for the concert are $4 for general admission and $2 for students, and may be purchased at the door.

Campus Band concert: The Penn State Campus Band, under the direction of graduate conductors Matthew Stombaugh and Jonathan Watts, will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Eisenhower Auditorium, University Park. Tickets for the concert are $5 for general admission and $3.50 for students, and may be purchased at the door. One ticket will be good for both the Campus Band and the Concert Band performance.

Concert Band concert: The Penn State Concert Band, under the direction of O. Richard Bundy and assistant conductors Gregory Drane and Joseph Scheivert, will perform a concert at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, Eisenhower Auditorium, University Park. Tickets for the concert are $5 for general admission and $3.50 for students, and may be purchased at the door. One ticket will be good for both the Campus Band and the Concert Band performance.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert: The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dennis Glocke, associate professor of music and assistant conductor Jonathan Watts, will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in Eisenhower Auditorium, University Park. The program will feature Penn State student soloists Lee Jacobs, tuba, and Erika Lange, trombone, winners of the 2005 Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition. Tickets for the concert are $5 for general admission and $3.50 for students, and may be purchased at the door.

Symphonic Band concert: The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dennis Glocke, associate professor of music, and assistant conductor Matthew Stombaugh, will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in Eisenhower Auditorium, University Park. Tickets for the concert are $5 for general admission and $3.50 for students, and may be purchased at the door.
