Lamancusa wins ASME Ruth and Joel Spira Award

John Lamancusa, professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Learning Factory, has received the 2006 American Society of Mechanical Engineers' (ASME) Ruth and Joel Spira Outstanding Design Educator Award. The award recognizes a person who exemplifies the best in furthering engineering design education through vision, interactions with students and industry, scholarship and impact on the next generation of engineers, and who serves as a role model for other educators.

Lamancusa was cited for "significant contributions as the co-developer and director of the Learning Factory, which integrates design, manufacturing and business realities to the engineering curriculum through real projects and a state-of-the-art, hand-on learning laboratory."

He will receive his award -- a $1,000 honorarium, medal and certificate -- at the ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences in Philadelphia in September.
