Barnes & Noble, others give Penn Staters discounts

University Park, Pa. -- Being a member of the Penn State community has its advantages. Whether a person is counted among the ranks of faculty, staff or student, he or she can take advantage of numerous discounts offered both on and off campus.

The Office of Human Resources has set up a Web site listing many of the discounts offered to those with a Penn State id+ card. The site, found at http://www.ohr.psu.edu/discounts/index.htm online, lists information about discounts on apparel, arts and crafts, automotive, communications, computers, education, financial services, flowers, health and beauty, insurance, legal services, moving/relocation, restaurants and food, retail stores, sports, transportation, travel and hotels, and other categories. Most businesses offer discounts of around 10 percent to those who show their valid id+ card.

In addition to offering discounts, select businesses also accept LionCash+, an online, prepaid flexible spending account accessed via a valid Penn State id+ card. Faculty, staff and students can deposit money into their accounts, and then make purchases at participating on- and off-campus locations using their id+ cards. The amount of a purchase will be deducted from the account. For more information, visit the Penn State id+ Web site.

In addition, Penn State faculty, staff and students now can show their id+ cards and a Barnes & Noble membership card at the Penn State Bookstore on the University Park campus and receive Barnes & Noble member benefits including 40 percent off all hardcover bestsellers, 20 percent off all adult hard cover books except textbooks and 10 percent off most other items in the store.
