Funding Allocation Board hearings set; University Park students encouraged to attend

University Park, Pa. -- The student activity fee Funding Allocation Board (FAB) at Penn State's University Park campus will begin spring budget request hearings Saturday (March 24), and will continue hearings on Wednesday, March 28, and Thursday, March 29. All FAB budget request hearings are open to interested Penn State students, staff and faculty.

The Funding Allocation Board is charged with directing the annual student activity fee process in order to maximize those resources at University Park. FAB aims to ensure funding for those programs, activities and services that meet the co-curricular needs and interests of students and contribute to a vibrant, engaging and purposeful experience beyond the classroom.

The board is comprised of seven voting student representatives, three voting staff/faculty representatives, one non-voting student chair and one non-voting staff advisor.

"The Funding Allocation Board provides a great opportunity for more student involvement in how the student activity fee for University Park students is used," said Ellery Loomis, FAB's student chair. "This committee represents the student body, and it is a great effort among students, faculty, staff and administrators to see the fee is allocated in the best and most efficient manner. All students contribute a student activity fee, and they should be very engaged in how it is being used. FAB and the hearings provide the best opportunity to do that."

FAB will make recommendations to the vice president for student affairs on the allocation of the student activity fee for the large-scale and on-going programs and services that have become an important aspect of student life and the out-of-classroom experience.

The FAB hearing schedule follows. All FAB hearings will be held in The Bravo Room of Johnston Commons in East Halls. Questions regarding FAB can be directed to Loomis at elleryloomis@psu.edu or Michael Gilbert, FAB advisor, at mag33@psu.edu.
