Kavanaugh lecture to focus on risk issues

Ross B. Corotis, professor of engineering at the University of Colorodo at Boulder, will present this year's Thomas C. Kavanagh Memorial Structural Engineering Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the Applied Research Laboratory auditorium, University Park. The presentation is titled "Risk Issues in the Built Environment" and is free to the public. Corotis is a former dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the current Denver Business Challenge professor. His primary research interests include the application of probabilistic concepts to civil engineering. He has recently focused on risk and risk perception in the built environment, including societal tradeoffs of investments involving hazards and political issues. A light reception will immediately follow the presentation.
