Poker Run for bicycle safety

University Park, Pa. -- In an effort to teach bicycle safety to Penn State students, faculty and staff, the University Park campus will host its first ever Poker Ride from 1 - 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.

Anyone who is interested in learning bicycle safety while having a good time should bring their bicycle to the East Hall Quads at 1 p.m. Only bikes that have been registered can go on the Poker Ride but free registration is available at the start of the event.

Each participant will receive a playbook for the game and cards for each player's hand will be located at five to seven different stations. Players will receive different clues regarding Penn State trivia in order to find one of the stations. When a player has at least five cards, he or she can stop or ride to two more stations for the chance of getting a better hand.

At the end of the game, the best hand from the five station ride and the best hand from the seven station ride will win a $50 gift certificate and three other $25 certificates will be awarded to runners up.

The event is sponsored by University Health Services, Residence Life, University Police, Penn State Cycling, Centre Region Bicycle Coalition, Freeze Thaw Cycles, Mt. Nittany Wheelworks and the Bicycle Shop. Each will also have a table set up with more information about safety, at East Hall Quads.
