Phishing scam hits e-mail in-boxes

University Park, Pa. -- Several hundred individuals at the University were sent a phishing scheme message from "PSU.EDU CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT" with the subject line of "Confirm Your Email Address!" These are false messages that should just be ignored and deleted. Please do NOT respond or reply to the messages and do NOT send e-mail to support@psu.edu or upgrade.dept1@yahoo.com. These are fake services attempting to steal PSU UserIDs and passwords. Everyone who already replied to the message or sent mail to support@psu.edu or upgrade.dept1@yahoo.com should immediately change their Penn State password at https://www.work.psu.edu online. The messages do reference a real Penn State service at http://webaccess.psu.edu online. This URL represents a real Penn State service and should be trusted. For more information, contact ITS Security Operations at security@psu.edu via e-mail.
