Penn State's New York bus service to begin Thursday trips

University Park, Pa. -- Due to the success of the Big Apple Express weekend bus service to New York, Penn State Transportation and Fullington Tours are adding an extra day to its weekly service.

For a limited time, Thursday bus trips to and from New York City will be available starting on Feb. 28. Buses will leave at 2:30 p.m. every Thursday and will arrive in New York City at approximately 7:15 p.m., after a brief stop in Dover, N.J., at around 6:15 p.m.

Ticket cost is $40 one way and $80 roundtrip. Departure and arrival times may vary due to weather or traffic conditions.

New Yorkers have a Thursday option too. Those who want to spend a weekend in Happy Valley can take advantage of the Big Apple Express. A bus departs the Port Authority at 8 p.m. Thursday and arrives in State College at 1 a.m. on Friday, also with a brief stop in Dover, N.J.

Tickets can be purchased at the Bus Depot at 152 North Atherton St. or by calling (814) 238-1100 or (814) 238-7971. Online ticket purchases are not yet available.

The regular weekend bus service schedule is still available. Buses leave State College at 2:30 p.m. Friday and arrive at 7:15 p.m. The express returns to State College at 8 p.m. Friday from the Port Authority. On Sunday, buses will leave State College at 11 a.m. and arrive in New York around 3:45 p.m.

People with disabilities are asked to call (800) 942-8287 to coordinate accessibility needs up to 48 hours in advance. This new express service will run for a trial period during the fall and spring semesters. Success of the service will determine whether the express will continue next year.
