Volunteers needed to prepare for Trash to Treasure's Big May Sale

University Park, Pa. -- This May, enjoy the experience of working in Beaver Stadium for a good cause. Those interested in working with Trash to Treasure can sign up alone or bring friends and/or co-workers for a rewarding activity that greatly benefits many local organizations and the Centre County United Way.

Beginning May 7, there will be many flexible shifts available throughout the month, including sale day shifts on May 31. Visit www.trashtotreasure.psu.edu to fill out a volunteer form. No previous experience is necessary and volunteers can receive a coupon that can be used to purchase items on sale day.

Penn State’s annual Trash to Treasure sale is the biggest recycling/reuse and town/gown effort. It annually raises thousands of dollars for the Centre County United Way by selling donated items from students moving out of the residence halls. To date, the program has raised over $257,000 and saved 425 tons of usable goods from going to the landfill.

Donated items include a large selection of clothing, furniture, electronics, rugs, and more. Trash to Treasure’s main sale will be held on May 31 at Beaver Stadium. The United Way works closely with Penn State to put on the events throughout the year.
