A grove of experimental chestnut saplings was planted at the site of the Arboretum on the University Park campus. The project, in conjunction with the American Chestnut Foundation, aims to restore the trees to a rightful place in Pennsylvania forests. About 100 years ago, a fungus wiped out the native population. From left are Robert Steele, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences; Kim Steiner, director of the Arboretum; and Herb Darling of the American Chestnut Foundation.
