American Farmer Farm Tire Scholarship Awarded

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Gary L. Graff of Kempton, a junior majoring in agricultural and biological engineering in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, has been selected to receive the American Farmer Farm Tire Scholarship sponsored by Specialty Tires of America, Inc., located in Indiana, Pa.

"We are grateful for Specialty Tires of America's continuing scholarship support to students in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering," says Dr. Harvey Manbeck, distinguished professor and interim head of the department. "This scholarship not only provides necessary financial resources, but also provides encouragement to our students."

The American Farmer Farm Tire Scholarship is presented annually to an outstanding junior or senior in agricultural and biological engineering, on the basis of academic performance, leadership abilities and financial need. Preference is given to students interested in the engineering design, analysis and field testing of agricultural machinery.

Founded in 1915 as McCreary Tire and Rubber Company, Specialty Tires of America makes and markets specialty tires and rubber products, including tires for agricultural equipment as well as high-performance tires for racing cars and classic automobiles. "We manufacture a wide variety of tires for tractors, farm implements and other off-road vehicles," says Gary Brewer, product manager for the company. "The scholarship reflects our dedication to this sector of our market."
