Carol Schafer, associate professor of theatre, integrative arts, and women's studies at Penn State Beaver, has had an article published in the noted journal, Comparative Drama, Vol. 42, Summer 2008, No. 2. Schafer's article explores the content and themes of three plays by playwright Susan-Lori Parks, the first African-American woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for drama for her 2001 play, "Topdog/Underdog."
Schafer joined Penn State in 1998 and has directed and written numerous theatrical productions in the United States, including plays for Beaver campus and Crisis Center North in Pittsburgh. She has studied acting, costume design, stage management and dramaturgy, and holds a doctorate in aesthetic studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. She also holds a master's degree in speech and theatre arts from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor's degree in speech and theatre arts from Western Carolina University.
