IST launches Web science club

A new club in Penn State’s College of Information Sciences and Technology will create an outlet for students to discuss emerging Web technologies.

Formed by IST students Rich Samartino and John Cross, the Web Science Club will hold its first meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in 206 IST Building. The club is open to all IST and SRA students.

According to Samartino, the club will discuss ideas such as: how the Web is changing the way people communicate, the impact of emerging technologies including social networking and the how the Web should evolve in the future. Meetings will feature presentations from students and guest speakers.

"We formed this club because many IST students already have an interest in the Web and because Web science is so crucial to shaping the future of Web and the world," Samartino said.

Bart Pursel, an IST instructor and instructional designer, will serve as the club's adviser. For information about the club, contact Samartino at rrs5043@psu.edu.
