University Park, Pa. — Penn State's Center for Sustainability will host an open house and presentation by David Riley, associate professor of engineering, and Penn State students about the MorningStar Solar home and the sustainable American Indian Housing Initiative (AIHI) at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 5).
The event will include an open house at the MorningStar Solar Home, located in front of the Centre County Visitors Center across from Beaver Stadium, starting at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation in the auditorium of the Visitors Center at 7 p.m.
The presentation will feature the design concept of the MorningStar solar home, and the connectivity between the home, the 2007 Solar Decathlon competition and the American Indian Housing Initiative.
Entering its 10th year of activity, the American Indian Housing Initiative challenges students and faculty from various disciplines to develop sustainable solutions to the housing crisis facing American Indian tribes.
The presentation will include the evolution of lessons learned through AIHI that helped shape the entry of Penn State in the Solar Decathlon and the impact of the decathlon experience on future AIHI programs.
