Academic advising brown-bag lunch presentation planned

Every semester the Division of Undergraduate Studies holds brown-bag lunches for the Penn State community, featuring presentations related to academic advising. These lunch-and-learn sessions provide opportunities for professional development, networking and advising discussions.

The first lunch of this semester, "2008 Excellence in Advising Award Winners" is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in 110 Henderson Building, The Living Center, University Park. What motivates award-winning advisers? What philosophies do they believe and practice? What techniques can they share? Three noted advisers will share their perspectives and experiences:

Lester Griel, professor of veterinary science earned the 2008 Schreyer Honors College Excellence in Honors Advising and also won the College of Agricultural Sciences 1999 Alumni Society Excellence in Academic Advising Award.

Lori Gravish, instructor in the Department of Kinesiology, earned Penn State's 2008 Excellence in Advising Award.

Paul Heinemann, professor of agricultural and biological engineering, won the College of Agricultural Sciences 2008 Alumni Society Excellence in Academic Advising Award.
