Penn State Altoona's Arts and Theatre Building gets new look

University Park, Pa. — The University Board of Trustees approved final plans for a proposed addition to the Penn State Altoona Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts building.

A design is complete and the $3 million project has been fully funded through philanthropy and campus reserves. Plans for the outside area of the building include new walkways, a service entrance for equipment and scenery loading and unloading, as well as an entrance directly into the addition. Inside, there will be a new performing arts studio with a hardwood dance floor, a scene shop where set designs can be constructed and a stage extension, which will add to the utility of the existing theatre.

"I’m very pleased we are able to move forward with this much-needed addition to the center," said Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry, chancellor for Penn State Altoona. "The addition of space will provide critical support for our academic programs and cultural activities programming, including music, theatre and dance."
