Search engine upgrade scheduled for Feb. 5

University Park, Pa. — Information Technology Services (ITS) will migrate the Penn State Google Search Appliance (GSA) from its current configuration to a newer type of "load-balanced" hardware on Thursday (Feb. 5) during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5 to 7 a.m.). In addition, this new hardware will be updated with a newer version of the Google Search Appliance software (version 5). During the upgrade, it is expected that search.psu.edu will experience intermittent outages.

Recent issues with the older GSA may unexpectedly expedite the scheduled migration date of Feb. 5. Should this occur, ITS will make every effort to provide updates regarding the changes via the ITS Alerts system and other announcement avenues.

A listing of the new features available in the new GSA will be published at http://aset.its.psu.edu/googledocs/ no later than Feb. 10. To learn more, visit the ITS Alerts page at http://alerts.its.psu.edu/alert-987 online.
