'Love, Philanthropy' is theme for HUB event

University Park, Pa. -- Paterno, Hintz, Eberly, Huck, Smeal -- all families well known for their philanthropy to Penn State, but how did their giving to the University start? Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, on the first floor of the HUB, you can find out, as the Student Philanthropy Council hosts another "Philanthropy Phriday" event.

The council uses these monthly programs to call attention to the importance of giving back to Penn State. This month's theme is "Love, Philanthropy," incorporating Valentine's Day and private giving. The event will feature games that will give students a chance to learn more about couples who have made landmark gifts to the University. Council members also will hand out free cookies throughout the day.

"This is the first Philanthropy Phriday of the new year, and we're expecting it to be a good one," said council member Megan Geise. "It will be very interactive and provide a lot of information that students might not be aware of."

Council member Dana Reitz added, "I think this event is going to be really fun and educational. We all know the names of many of the largest donors to the University, but to hear how they started out by making small gifts after graduation is really inspiring. It shows that every gift counts, no matter what the amount is."
