Heard on Campus: Distinguished Alumnus Charles Bierbauer

"In all cases, there's this tug-of-war between the president and the press. ... There should be something in the way of checks and balances that the Founding Fathers had in mind."

-- Charles Bierbauer '66, '70g Com, delivering the opening remarks Feb. 27 at the 2009 Penn State Model United National Conference. Bierbauer, a former Emmy Award-winning CNN White House correspondent, has previously been recognized by Penn State as a Distinguished Alumnus and Alumni Fellow. He is now the dean of the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina. During his visit to Penn State, Bierbauer had breakfast with a group of students in the Schreyer Honors College, visited the College of Communications and met with the Penn State International Affairs and Debate Association (PSIADA) executive board. PSIADA sponsored the 2009 Model U.N. Conference; Bierbauer's speech was sponsored by PSIADA, the College of Communications, the College of the Liberal Arts and the Schreyer Honors College.
